The Billings Area
Named after Fredrick H. Billings, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Billings is the largest city in Montana and nicknamed the Magic City because of its rapid growth from its founding as a railroad town in March 1882. Billings centers around the great Yellowstone River, which begins in the Yellowstone National Park and has area attractions such as Pompey’s Pillar, Pictograph Cave, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Zoo Montana, and the Yellowstone Art Museum.
